Harkey attacks Rev. Robert Schuller for proposed property sale
 |
Dana Point Mayor Diane Harkey has publicly derided acclaimed evangelist Robert Schuller's Crystal Cathedral Ministries regarding the proposed sale of property in a rural area of San Juan Capistrano to allow the United States Postal Service to build a needed mail-sorting facility to improve mail delivery in south Orange County and throughout the region. |
 |
| According to tapes of a Los Angeles-based radio talk show and press reports in the local papers, Harkey stated that Rev. Schuller and his Ministries had engaged in an "unholy alliance" to assist the Federal government by making necessary land available to improve postal service. |
 |
Harkey is currently subject to a Recall Petition being circulated in Dana Point to remove her from office. Recall proponent Robert Traphagen said, "Harkey's suggestion that the esteemed Rev. Schuller is doing anything 'unholy' is 'over-the-top' and just another example of her 'not ready for prime time' character." Traphagen added, "our postal service is lousy and we need a new sorting facility somewhere, but why Harkey has to use the placement of the needed facility as an issue to attack a man who has devoted his whole life to God, I just can't explain." |

"Despite public denials from her own Assembly staff, just a few months ago,
Diane Harkey disclosed under penalty of perjury an interest of up to $1,000,000
in "Point Center Financial," a company being sued by investors for fraud
and under investigation for operating "Ponzi scheme," bilking investors,
according to the Los Angeles Times and KNBC News. Harkey's
recent mandatory financial disclosures as an elected official now prove her connection
to the troubled company and may become evidence in the fraud litigation."

Diane Harkey's sad legacy in Dana Point-
- a failed Town Center project;
- more government spending;
- more regulations;
- more city union employees;
- fewer businesses.
